75 million bets are placed through the tote each year, with
profits going back into racing.
The Tote and on course bookmakers offer different odds due
to working different principles, but they are not vastly
different.
Tote Betting

You bet on a single horse to come in first
toteplace
You bet on a horse to be placed 1st or 2nd in a race with 5,
6 or 7 runners.
1st, 2nd or 3rd if there are 8 runners or more.
If the race is a handicap with 16 or more runners then you
would place the horse 1st, 2nd, 4rd or 4th.
toteexacta
You select the horses that come 1st and 2nd so long as there
are 3 more more runners in the race.
totetrifecta
Selecting the first 3 horses across the finishing line in
the correct order.
toteeachway
A totewin bet and a toteplace bet on the same horse.
totescoop6
This is a weekly tote bet where you have to work out the 6
winners of 6 races that has been given by the Tote.
totejackpot
Tote decides on a Jackpot meeting and you have to decide
which the winners will be of the first 6 races at that meet.
toteplacepot
You choose the 6 horses that will win the races at a
particular meeting. Each racecourse around the country takes
part in this.
totequadpot
A selection of the horses from the final 4 legs of the
Placepot.
