Spread Betting and Horse Racing
Spread Betting is another
Form of Betting on an Outcome of
an Event
Spread Betting is more usually associated with the stock
markets or other sports such as cricket, football, rugby or
golf.
The principle behind it is that you wager on a range of
possibilities - this is the spread. For instance if the
spread betting firm thinks that the England rugby team will
score be 21 points then they will quote the result as bring
20 - 22. If as a punter you think that the result will be
more than 21 then you'll buy at 22, or if you think that the
score is going to be less than 21 then you'll sell at 20.
The difference between the amount that you paid as the bet
and the actual result is the amount that you would win
multiplied by the amount that you bet.
Spread Betting in horse racing runs a long similar
principles, you can bet how many runners will finish the
Aintree Grand National, or something like the distance
between the first horse and the second in a particular race.
Unfortunately you cannot place a spread bet at a race
course or in a high street bookmaker, so you would have to
open an account with an online spread betting business.
A lot of money can be made with spread betting, however
unless you know what you are doing you could lose quite a
stack of money if you get it totally wrong.
Some of the main spread betting firms include:
